Hartman On Hudson is essentially me, Elizabeth Anne Hartman. I was raised in Tarrytown, New York, alongside the Hudson River and later lived on the West Side of Manhattan. Alas, I no longer am beside this mighty, storied river but my heart belongs to the Hudson – plus I couldn’t resist the delicious, alliterative spark of “Hartman On Hudson.”
Within the vast, overarching category of books and art, my career has had many facets. I am a proud believer in eclecticism and a passionate life-learner. I hold a Masters degree in Art History and the Art Market from Christie’s Education, a Masters in Library Science from Long Island University and a BA in philosophy from Colgate University.
I have danced Bharatanatyam on stages in India and am the author of For The Love of Peanuts: Contemporary Artists Reimagine the Iconic Characters of Charles M. Schulz (2019), and a sports book: The Smart Girl's Guide to Sports: A Hip Handbook for Women Who Don't Know a Slam Dunk from a Grand Slam. I am a freelance writer for the Wall Street Journal’s “Off Duty” section and a Contributing Editor at Publishers Weekly. Other freelance writing includes Christie’s Auction catalogues, the Hillwood Museum, the United Nations limited postage stamp edition bulletins.
During the executive phase of my life I held various positions in publishing including Vice President, Director of Publicity at Simon & Schuster for the Pocket Books division, Director of Publicity at Oxford University Press and Executive Director of Publicity and Institutional Marketing at the Macmillan Children’s Group. Moving into the library world, I was an art and reference librarian at Long Island University's B. Davis Schwartz Memorial Library. Then came the fervent deep dive into the art world in which I am a part-time manager at the Stella Flame gallery in Sag Harbor, NY and was formerly gallery manager for the Quogue Gallery, in Quogue, NY.
Liz assisted me in selecting art pieces for my home. She has a unique eye for finding art pieces that enhance and elevate my home.
